I am thrilled that all Legacy members will be able to be in phase 1 of the beta test.
At the end of this month I am moving to a new building a few blocks away. It has a built in desk, and I now have a 27 inch monitor that I will be using for the desktop PC that I got for FFXIV 1.0 back in 2010. I’m excited to be able to try it out with the Beta when the time comes (hoping for early Feb.! but it’s probably going to be mid to late Feb).
I’m terribly concerned with how drastically crafting seems to have changed, and how instance-centric A Realm Reborn is planned to be. What will be the point of crafting in A Realm Reborn? If there are instances all the way to 50, and raids at 50 (Labyrinth of Behemoth, Crystal Tower, etc) and obviously the relics, will crafting be more like WoW (aka useless) or are they still going to have materia-melded equipment be a thing?
In FFXI pre-Abyssea, crafting was a huge deal. If you had max-level crafts, you had gil. That was it. You worked hard and now you can make gil. FFXIV 1.0, getting crafts to max wasn’t really all that difficult, but it was time-consuming. I personally got all but one to max (and 41 Carpenter for the last one, which is close enough). But will having these crafts even matter?
Will a Felt Hat ~melded~ with INT be a viable piece for a Black Mage to wear? Or will there be an entry lv50 instance that drops a mage monacle that’s better than a melded hat?
I spent a freaking long time getting my crafts up, and I really hope that it wasn’t a waste. I’ll still play, but cool wow. I am a super casual player, and I want to be able to craft a few things when I get home from work and make some gil that I can use on the weekends for whatever reason. Not just not play over the week and run dungeons on the weekend so that I can have decent gear and plow through leves for gil.
Huge rant. Sorry. End.
(I wasn’t even planning on ranting.)
With all the great areas we see in “First Look - Black Shroud” alpha videos Square-Enix is releasing, I’m deeply curious how they’re going to make Thanalan and La Noscea just as awesome.

I’m also excited to see what they do to Mor Dhona / Coerthas.

I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since FFXIV went down. The Mac Beta either has terrible optimization or my 1-year-old $1200 laptop plays Guild Wars 2 worse than it played FFXIV. Regardless, it’s doing its job as a FFXIV-replacement for the time being.
I’m playing a Pistol Thief (sub Dagger for kiting) and I’m almost level 40. I kind of wish I had picked Engineer, but I’m equipping most “summon” abilities (1xTHF summon, 2xTHF summon, turret summon), and just playing solo, as the game seems to push that gameplay for leveling, at least.
I’m Leatherworker/Jeweler, which I haven’t delved too much into aside from making basic earrings/rings for my THF.
I miss FFXIV terribly, and have been listening to Sequence Break XIV podcast during work, since I’ve listened to PFA/Aetheryte Radio 100 times over.
Today was my last day for version 1 of FFXIV.
I wish I could’ve been doing these last things on my desktop, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.
I decided to quit with 14 levels to go.
All 50s except 41 Archer and 45 Carpenter.
I’m taking in the sights now before the game closes.
